I DID IT!

I did it. It took over 28 months, but I finally got rid of Elizabeth's binki. This was one attached girl, so now that she has been binki-free for a month, I consider this addiction successfully kicked. I wasn't too big on pacifiers when James was an infant. But while on a plane trip at 10 months old I offered him one and he got hooked. Just before his 2nd birthday we got rid of it and it was surprisingly not too big of a deal for him. Oh, but I was dreading this separation for Elizabeth. As shown in the first photo, she was hooked from day 1. I tried desperately to keep it a bedtime thing, and certainly not in any pictures. Out of the thousands of pictures we have, these are the few that they slipped into. (I was actually just trying to find the one picture of her asleep with one pacifier in her mouth and one in each hand. Yes, there was a time she had to have 2 or 3 to fall asleep). Pacifiers have gone everywhere with her from the DC metro to campfires, even the swimming pool. Anna had a pacifier that would sooth her to sleep and it was great. I'd give it to her, lay her down and off to sleepy sleep land she would go. But at about 4 or 5 months she ditched the pacifier and replace it with me. Just me. Three different kids, three different pacifier stories to tell. Each situation has worked out for each of them, so I guess the decision to pacify or not to pacify is an individual one.

Congratulations. I know this has been a goal for a while. Since Sissy is so well adjusted and always cheerful, you have obviously had great vision. What are your plans for Major Jim's birthday? We'd love to have you join the party we are having for him here! We could make it a co-Binki Farewell party too.

Oh darn! My girls are older than Elizabeth and we still have our "pacie". We try to only use them when sleeping, or driving in the car. But I have to admit, nothing bothers me more than when they are talking with the pacie in the mouth. Maybe I should consider a farewell to our pacies too. It will be SO very sad.

Congrats! That's exciting news. One less thing to have to unnecessarily worry about.
