Jim and I gave talks in our church today. Standing up there sharing my talk was not nearly as nerve wrecking as watching a 2-year-old pink blur twirling around and shouting hi out of the corner of my eye... but we all survived. Jim gave an excellent talk on tithing with awesome examples from the scriptures that we've all heard, but it was a great reminder that we have been blessed with so much. It shouldn't be a difficult commandment to follow, especially when you think of the widow of Zarephath in 1Kings, or the story of the widow's mite. I love how Hyrum's wife known as "widow smith" rebuked the tithe clerk for suggesting she not pay tithing because she was so poor. She had such great faith to exclaim that she was paying tithing because she expected the Lord to give her blessings in return.
How true. The Lord does bless us when we keep his commandments- and this was the theme of my talk. I was asked to review Elder Condie's talk from General Conference and I was so excited because this was my favorite one! Especially when he quoted Genesis 30:22 "the 4 most beautiful words in holy write: And God remembered Rachel". Because God remembers each one of us. Enough of my preaching. I'll just include a link to the talk itself, so you can read or reread it. Awesome.

Anyway-back to Preston and Safford...
when we first moved to Idaho, Jim loved telling people his roots were from Preston because of Napoleon Dynamite. Well, now that we're in Arizona, I felt I should say my roots come from Safford. They may not produce great films, but they do produce great families. Yup, I said that. cheesey as it is. And Jim is embarrased. I say be embarrased- I think he's really just jealous.

I support you saying that about Safford. Be sure and say it when you move to San Francisco too. (Will that be soon?) By the way, someone asked me today the name of the base where you live. Don't know. What is it?
So cute Karin! I am sure that the talks were wonderful! I wish I could have seen the cute little pink twirler. You have a great family! Thanks for letting me pretend that I am a member.
Hey ditto on that. That includes ME! Sounds like you guys shared some great talks with fabulous themes. Thanks for sharing with US!
Karin-- I hope you know how great I think you are. Seriously, you have always been a great example to me... I'm just lucky to be able to call you a friend and cousin as well!
And how cute of little James to ask for your and Jim's safety. It reminds me of an old Lee joke/story... Apparently when one of us was very young (I honestly can't remember which of us said it), we shouted, as leaving the dinner table, "Thanks for the dinner Mom... Thanks for the money Dad!" Funny how even as kids, we want the people we love to feel equally important.
