English is just a tricky language to learn. I am so grateful I grew up speaking it because I don't know that I would have caught on to it as a second language. I mean, you learn Spanish or German and there are rules that these languages actually follow. English has rules- but exceptions to these rules. I mean- ough has 6, count them, 6 different sounds! Could we make reading any more tricky for little kids? But actually, this is all beside the point. Why, you wonder, did I title this "Toboggans, Pioneers and A-10's" if I'm just discussing English? It's the other tricky part of languages that I intended to comment on- the part where kids confuse similar sounding words. They're not homonyms... help me out here, Alicia- isn't there a word for this? anyway-
Jim wasn't home for dinner tonight, so I served up a gourmet plate of green beans, corn, and Costco Taquitos topped with avacado and sour cream. James devoured his and requested "more toboggans, please!" (toboggans in Az? not happening...) And while on our "exploration walk" Elizabeth picked up something that had fallen from a pine tree and shouted "a pioneer! Look, I found a pioneer!" But my favorite slip-up this week actually wasn't a slip up, it was intentional. At the conclusion of her prayer, rather than reverently saying amen, Elizabeth exclaimed "a-10! Ha! I said A-10!!!". Funny, and she knows it.

I love it! I cannot tell Caleb what Elizabeth said or it will become his ending to every prayer. He found a military aircraft book at the library today and was very fixated on the a-10 photos in it. Uncle Army is responsible for this.
Love it! ... I wish I could help you out here on what they would be classified... if there is a classification, then I have no clue. Sorry dude. I guess I am a crappy English teacher. :)
A-10. I love it.
Tell Jeff hi-- I miss him.
Hilarious! As always, Karin, your offspring crack me up. And I took the liberty of looking up your "Engligh" query, and the word is homophone. Yeah, I'll be the resourceful one here. :) Ha! I just have nothing better to do at work... Love the A-10. I think each generation gets more and more clever and younger and younger ages these days. Funny.
AT younger and younger ages... AT. I'm a genius.
