Silly me

OK, so who is this room mom to suggest bringing smocks for the 6 year olds who will be painting pumpkins while wearing Halloween costumes? I mean really- they are in first grade, and after all have a whole year of experience behind them.

Oh, it was probably the mother of this child, who decided to carry his pumpkin out to the car against his chest, under his coat (which looks equally colorful) to protect it from the falling snow.

Yeah, paint is still there after a good soak and a wash- any ideas?

What was he doing wearing church clothes to school? It wasn't part of his HAWK costume he came up with and we spent so much time on (see below). "Because actually, Mom, most kids BUY their costumes and a hawk really isn't very cool."

(Jim: (said in 1/2 jest) "You are the mom kids dread having, MAKING costumes that people don't know what they are!")

But actually, I was simply trying to validate James' creative hawk costume idea- which really was kinda cool. (BTW James LOVED 'making' his costume and had plenty of fabulous things to say about homemade vs. storebought while we were crafting together. It wasn't until he saw others that he realized he was out of the norm...)

He has plenty of years ahead of him to be gory, halloween-ish things. I personally LIKED the hawk idea.

Oh, we were actually commenting to each other this year that the homemade costumes ALWAYS look cooler than store bought! I just wish I knew how to sew and didn't procrastinate so much! I bet they looked terrific!
