What Makes Me Smile

Well, I'm shooting for every other week here, I guess.
Ten on Tuesday Assignment: 10 things that make you smile

1. My children inventing together and making each other happy (even when it is at my expense).

2. Jim coming home from work singing his "I'm home" song. (Really, most songs he sings- changing lyrics to as he goes along. They either make me smile or cringe:)

3. Inside jokes.

4. finding a stellar deal on something I actually need.

5. Pulling the rolls or garlic bread out of the oven before it burns.

6. Looking at the alarm clock and realizing I've slept 4 consecutive hours.

7. capturing the photograph I wanted (i love looking through old photos!)

8. successfully finishing a project (my closets {and garage!} are full of well intended, yet unfinished projects...)

9. completing a full work out

preface: I tried extremely hard to come up with things other than James, Elizabeth, Anna and Joseph related, but they truly are my top ten... so I will lump them together as #10:
10.
a. Watching my kids accomplish a big task (Joseph reaching a spoon waaay up on the table as I type this -ok, as I typed the first draft this morning...)

b. Seeing James read and read and read about anything.

c. Peeking in on Elizabeth's primary class to watch her go out of her way to share.

d. Anna following me out to the foyer at church, as I try to walk Joseph to sleep, only to be interrupted by Joseph's hard-core-belly-laugh at Anna's twirling and dancing.

and e:Conversations with aforementioned children, such as this one I had with Anna while tucking her in tonight.
"Momma, does Hazel have a turtle?"
"No."
"Why not?"
"Because her parent's haven't bought her one."
"Oh. --Poor Hazel."

Then this question: "Why can't I sleep on the roof?" led to this question: Why don't we have birthday lights?"
"You mean like Christmas lights?"
"Yeah."
"Ohh, that would be a fun idea!"
"Yeah, then Daddy could get up on his climby thing and put the lights up."
So if Anna has her way, our house will be sporting "birthday lights" for Elizabeth next week:)

And her last conversation with me "I don't want to sleep in my bed".
"Then sleep in James' room".
"I don't want to sleep in my room or James' room."
"Then sleep on the floor."

"OK."
Yup, my kids make me smile.

I relate to your list, unfortunately the one about sleep as well. That's sweet of Anna to have sympathy for Hazel like that. (Jayden & Hazel feel the same way.) Posting is always harder than it seems, isn't it? But I love reading everyone's lists.

What a great list! And I know that it is hard to think ANYTHING that isn't kid-related! It's sad, but life, right? I love seeing all your fun pictures and darling kiddos! And I totally want to try meatloaf cupcakes -- too funny!

I like you Karin. You make me laugh and feel tender (almost cry) at the same time. I'm so glad we're family AND friends. I think you are one of the greatest mothers I have ever met, watched, or admired! xo
