Honoring the Fallen

I absolutely love patriotic events. I am moved to tears by the National Anthem and appreciate honoring soldiers- those who have died, are currently serving, and Veterans. I enjoyed the ceremony we attended today- even though we had to get there early to ensure seats and then deal with three little ones. But having them there was worth the occasional struggle and sucker- bribes. Watching Jimmy's first fly-by was incredible!
We appreciated our friends getting us to the right spot and helping out with the kids so we could watch Daddy! -Our friend even got to participate.
The 21 dove release was very impressive, as was the 21-cannon salute, rifle fire, and TAPS.
Anna even let me enjoy some of it...

The speakers were great, reminding us that Memorial Day is more than a day off work and school, the day Summer begins and pools open. At the close, a man played Amazing Grace on the bagpipes. It was a wonderful way to commemorate Memorial Day.
Playing all afternoon with the Harpers really tuckered us out-- What a day!

Memorial day is a such a great day to be reminded and humbled as you think of all those who have served this country and the sacrifices their families have made. Nothing we did yesterday was out of the ordinary- Mike working, etc. So I especially appreciate your post. Very touching to see the old men in uniform and the young children playing. Just a reminder that service and sacrifice to our country effects everyone. Thanks for sharing your Memorial day experience. We are very proud of Jim.

It is neat to get to see all that was going on at the ceremony. We could hear the canons and guns and everything from below. I wish we could have been able to make it to see the memorial. This was a great way to celebrate Memorial Day.
