Strong Bonds

Our family participated in a military "strong bonds" retreat last weekend.Watching this chopper land and take off was a highlight. Most of the time Jim and I spent in classes and the kids went to play groups but we got to keep James and Lizzy for a little role-playing. They enjoyed participating.Joseph enjoyed all the mealsin this cafeteria.James also got to join us for some outside activities. Jimmy helped everyone cross from one side to the other, then Tarzan-ed his way to join us on the finish side.INSANE. For some reason James felt compelled to climb the tree 40 feet up and cross it -with me on the other side.Shouldn't that be a father/son activity?
Not so sure about this one...
Love James' expression in this shot- he later said climbing the ladder was the toughest part.
For me, it was letting go of that dang tree and turning around.Once James got to this point he said he was ready to jump down. Truthfully, I was very impressed he made it that far. And you better believe I wouldn't have walked all the way over there, had it not been for him.He had to get far enough from the tree to jump, so I stood near him and he came to give me 5.
Then he just jumped!
And thoroughly enjoyed the ride down. After looking at these pictures of James' decent, I almost wish I would have enjoyed that ride down a little more, rather than hanging onto my own rope for dear life.I don't know which of us was happier to have our feet back on the ground.Never again.
This was James' favorite activity: archery. He LOVED it!!!The kids had a blast on the zip line.Anna stood and watch for a long time, complaining it was "freaky". Knowing her adventurous personality, I kept encouraging her to try it and sure enough- we couldn't get her off!Not even the snow could detour us from having a blast at this family retreat!

WOW! That looks like a great time. Your Yellowstone trip looks really fun, too.
