Family Fun Packets

I love this tradition as of the past year or so of mass e-mails the week before General Conference begins with fun little activities for kids (young and old). CLICK HERE for a link to one of the packets. I have another one in my e-mail I would be happy to forward if you want it as well, I just don't know how to post pdf. files.

And since I'm on the subject I just have to say I absolutely LOVED the
General Relief Society meeting last Saturday night. Elder Uchtdorf's talk was so unique and inspiring! I am looking forward to watching 8 hours of TV this weekend, learning from the Prophet and Apostles of the Lord.

Here are a few ideas I have learned through the positive parenting institute class I am attending about teaching the importance of a living prophet, and making General Conference a successful weekend in our homes:

Make Conference weekend an exciting and unique time. Bake cinnamon rolls or allow "treat" cereal. Create traditions that help your family become excited for this special weekend.

create conference notebooks for each child, including a picture of each of the 12 with a sheet of paper behind each one. Have your children write or draw about what they learn from each of their talks. Put up the 12 and First Presidency pictures along a wall in your home the week before conference (hurry- go print some off!) so your kids become familiar with each one and are excited to look for and listen to them.

Give each child a copy of the October Ensign when they come out next month. Let them highlight or draw pictures by key words and favorite talks. Then play a finding game-use scrapbook paper to decorate old cereal boxes for kids to keep their Ensigns in and add to the collection every 6 months.
