Girls vs. Kids

We miss cousin Caleb. He is a funny little guy who always had the most interesting comments and conversations (usually about Jack Bauer...). One day while riding bikes in front of our house, I put Elizabeth's helmet on him. He protested complaining he didn't want that one, he wanted a KID one. I assured him it WAS a kid helmet but after a few minutes of distress realized a kid is a boy. James had no problem wearing his sister's PINK helmet, so we switched and that was that. Now fast forward a year. Elizabeth wasn't quite 2 when this conversation went on, and I don't even know that she heard it, but last week she, too, was classifying genders as "kids" and girls. I can't figure out where this came from. But thanks to Burger King, I think she is learning. I drove through to get an Icee for my sore throat and noticed their kids meal toys are Cabbage Patch 'minis'. They are so cute! We rarely get "kids meals" unless on a road trip... but what do I do? I think they're only out for one more week! (oh, and the boy's toy is a monster truck which James loves, too.) So we've "earned" a couple trips to burger king. Elizabeth now calls one "kid" (cabbage patch KID) so perhaps this will lead to proper gender classification. There are 12 dolls total, and we won't even make 1/2 that, but I think tomorrow I just might get myself a happy meal with a cabbage patch (preferably in a skirt or dress).

Thanks to the writers strike, Jack Bauer is not the hot topic around our house. Caleb will talk about football. He and Jayden had an interesting conversation about cheerleaders. Now you can tell gender by being a "wide receiver" or a "cheerleader". I think Lizzy will like being a cheerleader. I love that the mom's are so into kids meal toys! Very cute.
